    Compatibility

Will TealAlias run on my PalmOS 5 handheld? (100%)
Yes. TealAlias is fully compatible with PalmOS 5 and handhelds running ARM processors like the Tungsten T.
    Thanks, that helped!

Will TealAlias let me launch a document viewer and automatically open the document? (100%)
It depends on the viewer. PalmOS defines a "Open Database" launch code as a standard method for telling an application which document to open. This launch code is volunarily supported by most document viewers, but a few do not, including, most notably, Documents to Go.
    Thanks, that helped!
    Features

Can I run applications from the card which interact with a HotSync conduit? (100%)
Sometimes. Some apps, like Wordsmith, use a conduit to install files into memory but only check for the app's presence in memory. For these, you can tell the alias to "mimic" the CreatorID and version of an app to keep the conduit functioning. Others, like AvantGo, however, perform direct calls the application during HotSync, which prevents them from being run from an Alias because the application cannot be loaded from an SD card in the middle of a Hotsync.
    Thanks, that helped!

Can TealAlias copy data files back to the card after I've changed them? (100%)
Yes. Make sure you are running TealAlias 1.2 or later. There are some cautions about how and when to use this option, so please read and understand the program manual.
    Thanks, that helped!
    General

What do I use TealAlias for? (100%)
TealAlias generates and manages small stub applications that function like Windows "shortcuts" (Mac "aliases"). The aliases allow you to run many applications and data files from the card, even if those applications normally expect all their data to be in main memory.

When you run an alias, it copies an application and an optional list of data files from a card into main memory, and then launches the application. When you exit the application, changes you've made to the data files are optionally copied back to the card and the temporary files are deleted. For more information, please refer to the TealAlias manual.
    Thanks, that helped!
    Troubleshooting

When I run an alias, my third party launcher crashes after I return to it.  (100%)
Some launchers cache information about an application, and behave badly when a temporary application copied from the card is freed. Try setting the "notify third party launchers" option in TealAlias preferences. If this does not work, you may need to revert to the standard default launcher or try another third-party launcher which handles temporary files properly. Launcher III reportedly has this problem. We recommend using TealDesktop, our own most excellent launcher replacement.
    Thanks, that helped!

When I exit TealAlias, I get a crash on my CLIE.  (100%)
Make sure you are running version 1.06 or higher, which fixes this bug on the Sony CLIE.
    Thanks, that helped!

When I create an alias for a specific data file, I can get its owner application to launch, but it won't open up the file. (100%)
In order for this feature to work, the application in question has to support the PalmOS "OpenDatabase" launch code. This code is voluntary, and most doc/data readers support it, but not all. If it doesn't work you can try using the "Goto Record" launch code instead, which fools some, but not all applications into opening a document if they support the global find command. If this still doesn't work, contact the manufacturer or that application and request they add support for the PalmOS "OpenDatabase" launch code.
    Thanks, that helped!
    Usage

How do I enable virtual graffiti and landscape modes on my Tungsten T3? (100%)
Make sure you are running the most recent version of the program, as earlier versions hadn't been updated to support the extended modes.
    Thanks, that helped!
